about us
West Michigan Vision Specialists provides understanding and answers for individuals suffering from visual dysfunctions. As a Neuro-Behavioral Optometric office we look beyond 20/20 eyesight and normal eye health to optimizing the eye-brain connections.
A Brief Overview
Behavioral Optometry has a rich history that dates back more than a century, evolving along our understanding of how the brain and eyes work together. In the mid-20th century, Dr. A.M. Skeffington, often referred to as the “father of behavioral optometry” promoted the idea that vision is not just about what the eyes see, but also how the brain interprets and responds to visual information. He believed that vision could affect learning, coordination, and even emotional well-being. Today, it is a specialized field dedicated to helping people with vision challenges by utilizing special lenses, tints, therapies and the brain’s neuroplasticity to re-establish a proper functioning eye-brain connection.

About West Michigan Vision Specialists
We are not your typical eye clinic. The majority of our patients have their own eyecare provider who provides them with corrective lenses and monitors their eye health. If you have been referred to us, it is for our specialized testing and services that aren’t available elsewhere. Our patients cover the spectrum of humanity from infants to the elderly. Some have an eye coordination problem or are struggling to read while others have had a concussion or surgery for a brain tumor. Still others are searching for answers for headaches, dizziness, balance problems or for their developmentally delayed child. What they all have in common is a desire to feel heard and maybe be offered a solution that hasn’t been presented before. Our mission is to help you remove the visual obstacles that are holding you back from living life on your terms.
